and 5542RPU Installation Sheet Edwards Adaptatone Millennium Paging System is for use with the 5532B 5532M and 5545B Series Speaker Amplifiers and standalone signal appliances and is intended for industrial where voice messages and other audio output are 5542RPU Remote Paging Unit is UL and cUL listed as an Audible Appliance Accessory for nonhazardous locations The Tone Generator with Pager Interface is UL and cUL as an Audible Signal Appliance for use in the hazardous shown in Table 4 Table 3 for models and accessories 5542RPU is powered by the 5540MP 24Y6 The paging is input to the Remote Page Unit via either an audio pair the 5542MIC series microphone The 5540MP 24Y6 operates from power It accommodates up to three normally open contacts on inputs The tone that sounds in response to an active input is by setting miniature programming switches inside the unit 2 has switch settings for setting tones tones may be programmed into the Tone Generator with Pager any time The tones operate on a pyramid type priority system with from the Remote Page Unit having priority over all three tones tone programmed on SW2 overrides the tones programmed on and SW4 Likewise the tone on SW3 overrides the tone on SW4 The tone programmed on SW4 has the lowest and cannot override any other programmed tone equipment is suitable for use in Class I Division 2 Groups A B and D Class II Division 2 Groups F and G and Class III locations or nonhazardous locations 5540MP 24Y6 may be mounted on any flat surface or may be as a freestanding unit mounted on a rigid pipe The Adaptatone be installed in accordance with the latest edition of the National Code or other regulations applicable to the country and of installation and by a trained and qualified electrician Explosion hazard Do not disconnect equipment unless power has removed or the area is known to be nonhazardous Explosion hazard Substitution of any components may impair for Class I Division 2 To prevent fire shock and component damage no work including board removal should be performed while the circuit is High voltage is present when the product is energized High volume may cause harm to personnel in close proximity To ensure integrity of the enclosure Ensure that the cover gasket P 007549 0069 is adhered into the groove on the cover before replacing the signal box cover Ensure that the four collar gaskets P N P 041930 0362 are in on each cover screw before securing the signal box cover When securing the cover start the screws by hand making sure they are threaded into the tapped holes in the housing bosses securing them with a screwdriver Torque signal box cover to a minimum of 20 in lbs This ensures the required tight The increased resistance due to long wire runs needs to be for in sizing wire See Table 1 Any kind of service or maintenance performed while unit is will void the warranty install the Adaptatone Mount the 5540MP Y6 as shown in Figure 1 surface mounting Secure the unit to the mounting surface the four mounting holes in the mounting plate on the rear of box Use the 10 3 in 76 mm wood screws furnished or other hardware not supplied suitable for the mounting pipe mounting Loosen the four cover screws from the box and lift off the signal box cover The cover screws are captive Do not remove them from the the center knockout in the lower wall of the box and the box on a 1 2 in conduit pipe using a suitable connector Wire in accordance with the instructions in on page 2 Refer to Figure 3 and Table 2 and select the desired tones On the generator set the miniature programming switches on the board input connected to IN2 set on SW2 IN3 set on SW3 and set on SW4 in order of priority desired Adjust the volume level of the 5540MP 24Y6 if desired by turning potentiometer located on the main board Figure 3 Mount the 5542RPU remote paging units as shown in Figure 2 Adjust the volume level for external audio and or page on the if desired by turning the appropriate potentiometer 4 Tightly secure the signal box cover using the four retained cover Torque the 5540MP 24Y6 signal box cover screws to a minimum 20 in lbs Verify operability 2015 UTC Fire shock wire the Adaptatone only as described this installation sheet When wiring units with replaceable fuses ensure that an adequate suitable for the location is provided to remove power from fuse Remove power before servicing the fuse wire the Adaptatone the wires through a knockout hole in the bottom of the box a raceway that is with its connections to the 1 2 in conduit hole approved for the same degree of protection and type needed by the application Use the provided plastic ties on the barrier to the electronics to separate incoming leads from signal and tone initiating leads per NEC 5 Wire the 5540MP 24Y6 as follows referring to Figure 3 and 5 Connect green and yellow striped earth ground wires to earth and to braid or drain of audio cable in step b See Figure 6 through Figure 11 Connect audio output from main board of the 5540MP 24Y6 to the AUD terminals of a or 5536M series speaker amplifier or to the Tone In 9 and 10 of a 5532B series or to leads 4 and 5 of series positive to positive and negative to Use shielded cable within an approved raceway the location and connect braid or drain to earth ground of 5540MP 24Y6 to a total of 2,500 of a combination of 5532B 5532M or 5536M series units can be connected in parallel to 5540MP 24Y6 This quantity may be less for long runs of wiring unless is sized accordingly of an optional MR 201 C relay is shown in Figure 10 See Table 1 to calculate number of 5542RPU remote paging allowed Refer to Figure 5 Figure 9 and Figure 10 and wire the 5540MP 24Y6 to terminal blocks TB1 and TB2 the 5542RPUs as required Connect incoming power to wire leads using a butt splice or method listed certified or otherwise approved by the authority having jurisdiction Leads are black for line and for neutral Optional Connect an external 24 VDC battery not supplied in with the separate diode assembly P N 2600010 to TB1 terminals 3 and 4 on the main board as in Figure 6 and marked on the diode assembly Terminal Block TB1 can be unplugged from the main to complete the wiring as shown in Figure 6 and testing To prevent fire shock and component damage no work circuit board removal should be performed while the circuit is Any kind of service or maintenance performed while unit is will void the warranty the unit semi annually for accumulation of dirt Clean if Adaptatone should be tested annually or as required by the having
