3825 Ohio Avenue St Charles Illinois 60174 FAX 630 377 6495 AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS Intelligent Air Duct Smoke Housing Temperature Range Humidity Range Air Velocity Ratings for DH500 Range Current nominal Surge at Max Rated Voltage current nominal inches 36.7 cm cm inches cm inches lbs kg to 120 0 to 49 to 93 Relative Humidity 4000 ft min 91.4 1219.2 m min 32 VDC Peak at 24 VDC at 24 VDC Installing thoroughly read System Sensor Guide for Proper of Smoke Detectors in Duct Applications I56 473 XX provides detailed information on detector spac placement zoning wiring and special applications of this manual are available from System Sensor Standards 72 and 90A should also be referenced for information This manual should be left with the owner user this equipment This detector must be tested and maintained following NFPA 72 requirements The detector be cleaned at least once a year Description HVAC system supplies conditioned air to virtually every of a building Smoke introduced into this air duct sys will be distributed to the entire building Smoke detec designed for use in air duct systems are used to sense presence of smoke in the duct DH500 Air Duct Detector Housings are used with Sensor intelligent model 1551 ionization detector and model 2551 photoelectronic detector head These principal smoke detection methods are combined with efficient housing design that samples air passing through duct and allows early detection of a developing hazardous When sufficient smoke is sensed an alarm signal initiated at the fire control panel monitoring the detector appropriate action can be taken to shut off fans and change over air handling systems etc This can the distribution or isolation of toxic smoke and fire throughout the areas served by the duct system LEDs on each detector latch ON to provide a local indication There is also a remote alarm output use with auxiliary devices The DH500 has remote capability with the RTS451 RTS451KEY Remote Test of the Duct Detector Housing Kit DH500 consists of the following items See Figure 1 Note 1 on Page 2 for inlet sampling tube and detector information Complete housing base and cover assembly Two 10 sheet metal mounting screws Two sampling tube filters One test magnet Drilling template Two 5 16 inch O rings Two rubber tube bushings seals Four 6 self tapping mounting screws for the sampling One filter adapter One inlet tube end plug Four 6x7 10 cover mounting screws Two 10 speed nuts One test coil and parts bag 1 SAMPLING TUBE SEPARATELY STRIP HOLES DETECTOR DETECTOR TUBE 2 Drill the Mounting Holes the paper backing from the top and bottom of the Affix the template to the air duct at the desired location Make sure the template lies flat and on the air duct Center punch hole targets and the template Drill the holes as indicated on the Slide the two speed nuts over the two small holes A next to the sampling tube bushing holes Hole B drilled in the duct See Figure 2 3 Mount Duct Housing the duct housing cover Slide the foam gaskets over tube bushings as shown in Figure 2B Make sure the small holes in the gaskets line up with the two base holes Put one 5 16 inch O ring over each of the 10 sheet metal screws Use the two sheet metal screws secure the duct housing to the duct not overtighten the screws BASE SCREWS ADAPTER HEAD SEPARATELY MAGNET TUBE The inlet sampling tube must be ordered sepa It must be the correct length for the width the duct where it will be installed See Table 1 to the inlet tube required for different duct Smoke detector heads 1551 ionization photoelectronic must be ordered separately Sequence 1 Verify duct air flow direction and velocity 2 Drill the mounting holes 3 Secure the housing base to the duct 4 Install the inlet sampling tube 5 Field wiring 6 Install the filters and check pressure differential 5 7 Perform detector check 8 Install the cover 9 Perform the final system check Testing 1 Verify Duct Air Flow Direction and Velocity DH500 is designed to be used in air handling systems air velocities of 500 to 4000 feet per minute Be sure check engineering specifications to ensure that the air in the duct falls within these parameters If neces an Alnor Model 6000 P velocity meter Dwyer 460 dif pressure gauge or their equivalent may be used check the air velocity in the duct 2A Speed nut mounting location 2B Installation of foam gaskets over sam tube bushings B A SAMPLING BUSHING DETECTOR TUBE BUSHING GASKETS Duct Width 1 Sampling Inlet Tubes to 2 ft to 4 ft to 8 ft to 12 ft to 0.6 m to 1.2 m to 2.4 m to 3.7 m 4 Install the Inlet Tube inlet tube shown in Figure 3 is identified by a series 3 Air duct detector inlet sampling tube HOLES HOLES FOR ATTACHING HOUSING TO DUCT air inlet holes on the tube This tube must be purchased Order the correct length as specified in Table for the width of the duct where it will be installed The tube is molded into the base of the duct housing inlet tube is always installed in the right house bush with the air inlet holes facing into the air flow To proper installation the tube mounting flange is with arrows Mount the inlet tube so that the point into the air flow Figure 4 shows the various of tube mounting configurations with respect air flow FACE AIR FLOW FLOW DIRECTION Installation for Ducts Less Than 8 Feet Wide If the inlet tube is longer than the width of the air duct a 3 4 inch hole in the duct directly opposite the already cut for the inlet tube the inlet tube is shorter than the width of the air duct the end cap into the inlet tube see Figure 3 Slide the inlet tube into the right housing bushing the tube so that the arrows point into the air are more than 2 holes in the section of the tube out of the duct select a different tube length Table 1 Otherwise trim the end of the tube pro through the duct so that 1 to 2 inches of the tube outside the duct Plug this end with the tube plug and tape closed any holes in the protruding of the tube Be sure to seal the duct when the protrudes Any inlet tube over 3 feet long must be supported on the Secure the tube flange to the housing bushing with the side of the duct detector housing 6 self tapping screws For tubes longer than the width of the air duct the tube extend out of the opposite side of the duct If 4 Tube mounting configurations with varying air flow direction and orientation of detector housing as well as horizontal mounting is acceptable INDICATE POSITION OF TUBE HOLES FLOW FLOW MOUNTING OF HOUSING MOUNTING OF HOUSING FLOW FLOW no case should more than 2 air inlet holes be cut off the There must be a minimum of 10 holes in the tube to the air stream Installation for Ducts More Than 8 Feet Wide To install inlet tubes in ducts more
