PMI Downgrade Instructions PMI contains Revision 5 or later PMI firmware document describes procedures to downgrade a SIEMENS Revision 5 or later to a Revision 2 3 or 4 PMI PMI this PMI is intended to be used as a hardware replacement for a Revision 2 3 or PMI follow the steps below all system power before installation first then AC To power up connect the AC first then battery PMI the battery connection to the system the power connectionto the system then other connections to the PMI the rear plastic cover from the PMI is held in place by four mounting screws location of the screws is marked A in 1 Place the screws to one side The PCMCIA Card the PCMCIA card P4 in the upper corner of the rear of the PMI to Figure 2 1 Of PMI remove the PCMCIA card and retain for possible future use The PMI BootROM IC Boot ROM is a static sensitive device Observe precautions for handling static devices the IC on the new PMI U6 Refer to Figure 2 The IC has a label to the top surface that indicates the IC number and the software currently installed Be sure to note the position of the notch in one of the IC the IC from the new PMI using a PLCC extraction tool If you do have this tool order Model PMI Tool P N 500 634781 not attempt to use any other type of tool Damage to the socket can result 315 050104 1 Building Technologies Safety the tool into the slots present in 2 of the corners of the chip mounting tool will lift and remove the chip Save this IC for possible future use the IC from the old PMI using the PLCC extraction tool Place this loosely into the socket of the new PMI Press it firmly into place by pressure in the center of the Boot ROM Once fully seated the ROM will be flush with the top of the socket The SIMM Chip SIMM is a static sensitive device Observe precautions for handling static devices the SIMM at P2 on the new PMI Refer to Figure 2 Note its and orientation the metal retaining clips on either side of the SIMM to release the and slide it up to remove it Save this SIMM for possible future use the SIMM from the old PMI and insert it into the new PMI evenly that the metal clips set into the notches in the corners of the chip INSTALLATION this is a new installation and PMI Revision 2 3 or 4 firmware is desired you must PMI UK1 to downgrade this PMI hardware before installation Follow the Instructions P N 315 034780 2 or later that are included with the kit OF PMI 2 Of PCMCIA Card BootROM IC and SIMM Memory Building Technologies Inc Fernwood Road Park New Jersey 07932 Building Technologies Ltd Derry Road West Ontario L5N 7A6 CN 315 050104 1
