Technical Field Bulletin The use of electrical boxes according to the N E C of System Sensor smoke detectors Application Engineers 8 02 1 04 following statements are in regard to the installation of fire alarm devices and their accessories The noted journal of reference is National Electrical Code 1999 edition located in the Chapter titled Alarm Systems b PLFA Wiring Methods and Materials Power limited fire alarm circuit conductors and cables described in Section 760 shall be installed as follows 1 In raceway or exposed on the surface of ceiling and sidewalls or in concealed spaces Cable splices or terminations be made in listed fittings boxes enclosures fire alarm devices or utilization equipment Installation of Conductors and Equipment a Separation from Electric Light Power Class 1 and NPLFA Circuit Conductors 1 In Cables Compartments Enclosures Outlet Boxes or Raceways Power limited circuit conductors shall not be placed in cable compartment enclosure outlet box raceway or similar fitting containing conductors of electric light power Class or nonpower limited fire alarm circuit conductors above statement permits fire alarm devices to be directly mounted without back boxes to the wall Wiring may also be terminated the fire alarm device As always consult the Authority Having Jurisdiction prior to installation you have any questions concerning System Sensor products or their application contact Technical Services at 1 800 SENSOR2 736 7672 extension 2 Ohio Avenue St Charles IL 60174 Phone 800 736 7672 Fax 630 377 6583 www systemsensor com
