273 Branchport Avenue Branch NJ 07740 631 2148 Thank you for using our products SERIES ET70 24MCCH ET90 24MCCH MULTI HIGH CANDELA SPEAKER STROBE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS this product according to this instruction manual Please keep this instruction manual for future reference Notification Series ET70 24MCCH and ET90 24MCCH Multi High Candela Low Profile Speaker Strobe is UL Listed under Standard 1971 for Devices for the Hearing Impaired for indoor fire protection service Models with amber red blue or green lens are UL Listed under Standard Visual Signaling Appliance for Private Mode Emergency and General Utility Signaling These speaker stobes are designed for multiple power with high dBA output at each power tap and offer a choice of field selectable taps 1 8W to 8W for either 25.0VRMS or 70.0VRMS audio The low profile design incorporates a high efficiency speaker for maximum output at minimum power across a frequency range of 400Hz to and features a sealed back construction for extra protection and improved audibility The Multi High Candela models provide two selectable output intensities in one unit and incorporates a speaker mounting plate attached to the speaker for ease of installation The Low Profile Speaker can provide a non synchronized strobe appliance when connected directly to a fire alarm control panel FACP or provide a synchronized strobe when used in conjunction with a Sync Module SM Dual Sync Module DSM or Cooper Notification power supplies The strobe uses a flashtube with solid state circuitry enclosed in a polycarbonate lens to provide maximum visibility and reliability for effective visible signaling models are Listed for indoor use ceiling mount only with the backboxes specified in these instructions see wiring and mounting information All CAUTIONS and WARNINGS are identified by the symbol All warnings are printed in bold capital letters PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THIS PRODUCT FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH ANY OF FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS COULD RESULT IN IMPROPER APPLICATION CANDELA SETTING AND OR OPERATION OF THESE PRODUCTS IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WHICH COULD RESULT IN PROPERTY AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO YOU AND OR OTHERS 1 UL Listed Models and Ratings at 10 Feet Watts The strobe will produce 1 flash per second over the Regulated Voltage range Strobes with clear and amber lens meet the required light distribution patterns defined in UL 1971 All models are UL Listed for indoor use with a temperature range of 32 to 120 0 to 49 and maximum humidity of 85 RH The of shipping and storage temperatures shall not adversely affect the performance of the appliance when it is stored in the original cartons and not subjected to misuse or abuse The maximum supervision voltage is 33 volts DC Frequency range of speakers is 400 4000Hz Ratings listed in Table 1 are for clear lens Derate approximately 25 for amber lens 55 for green 70 for blue and 80 for red Always operate audio amplifiers and speakers within their specified ratings Excessive input may distort sound quality and may damage equipment Do not exceed 100 of speaker input voltage per UL 1480 Improper input voltage can damage speaker If distortion is heard check clipping of the audio appliance with an oscilloscope and reduce the amplifier input level or gain level to eliminate any clipping CANDELA SETTING WILL DETERMINE THE CURRENT DRAW OF THE PRODUCT 2 UL Current Ratings with Strobe Only RMS Current Amps Voltage calculating the total currents use Table 2 to determine the highest value of RMS current for an individual strobe then multiply these values by the number of strobes Be sure to add the currents for any other appliances including audible signaling appliances powered by the same source and include any required safety factors The maximum number of strobes on a single notification appliance circuit shall not exceed 50 These strobes are UL Listed as They are intended to be used with FACPs whose notification circuits are UL Listed as These appliances shall not be used on UL Listed Application notification circuits unless the appliances are identified to be in the installation instructions of the FACP or unless the FACP is identified to be compatible in this instruction manual THESE STROBES WERE TESTED TO THE REGULATED VOLTAGE LIMITS OF 16.0 33.0 VOLTS FOR 24V MODELS USING DC OR UNFILTERED FULL WAVE RECTIFIED VOLTAGE DO NOT APPLY VOLTAGE OUTSIDE OF THIS RANGE 2009 Cooper Wheelock Inc dba Cooper Notification All rights reserved P84454 K 1 of 4 CHECK THE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM OUTPUT OF THE POWER SUPPLY AND STANDBY BATTERY AND SUBTRACT THE DROP FROM THE CIRCUIT WIRING RESISTANCE TO DETERMINE THE APPPLIED VOLTAGE TO THE STROBES THE MAXIMUM IMPEDANCE BETWEEN STROBES SHALL NOT EXCEED 35 OHMS Strobes are not designed to be used on coded systems in which the applied voltage is cycled on and off MAKE SURE THAT THE TOTAL RMS CURRENT REQUIRED BY ALL APPLIANCES THAT ARE CONNECTED TO THE SYSTEM AND SECONDARY POWER SOURCES NOTIFICATION APPLICIANCE CIRCUITS SM DSM SYNC MODULES OR COOPER POWER SUPPLIES DOES NOT EXCEED THE POWER SOURCES RATED CAPACITY OR THE CURRENT RATINGS OF ANY ON THE CIRCUITS TO WHICH THESE APPLIANCES ARE WIRED OVERLOADING POWER SOURCES OR EXCEEDING FUSE RATINGS RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER AND FAILURE TO ALERT OCCUPANTS DURING AN EMERGENCY WHICH COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO YOU AND OR OTHERS AND MOUNTING INFORMATION The following figures show the maximum number of field wires conductors that can enter the backbox used with each mounting option these limits are exceeded there may be insufficient space in the backbox to accommodate the field wires and stresses from the wires could damage product Check that the installed product will have sufficient clearance and wiring room prior to installing backboxes and conduit especially if multiconductor cable or 3 4 conduit fittings are used the limits shown for each mounting option comply with the National Electrical Code NEC Cooper Notification recommends use of the largest option shown and the use of approved stranded field wires whenever possible to provide additional wiring room for easy installation and stress on the product from wiring MOUNTING SPEAKER MOUNTING SPEAKER SQ X 1 1 2 RING 8 32 SQ X 2 1 8 8 32 OR GRILLE NUMBER OF
