keep this instruction manual for future reference Notification Series RSS and RSSP Strobes can provide a non synchronized strobe appliance when connected directly to a Fire Alarm Control Panel FACP provide a synchronized strobe appliance when used in conjunction with a Sync Module SM Dual Sync Module DSM or Cooper Notification Power Supplies Series RSS and RSSP Strobe Appliances are UL Listed under Standard 1971 Signaling Devices for the Hearing Impaired for indoor fire protection service The candela wall mounted strobes are listed at 15 candela under UL Standard 1971 and meet 75 candela intensity on axis with low current draw These Strobes are for wall mount and indoor use only with the backboxes specified in these instructions See Mounting Options RSS models have an integrated Strobe Plate SMP that can be mounted to a single gang double gang 4 backbox 100mm European backbox or SHBB surface backbox The strobes use a xenon with solid state circuitry enclosed in a polycarbonate lens to provide maximum visibility and reliability for effective visible signaling All inputs are polarized compatibility with standard reverse polarity supervision of circuit wiring by the Fire Alarm Control Panel FACP All CAUTIONS and WARNINGS are identified by the symbol All warnings are printed in bold capital letters PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THIS PRODUCT FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH ANY OF FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS COULD RESULT IN IMPROPER APPLICATION INSTALLATION AND OR OF THESE PRODUCTS IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WHICH COULD RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE AND SERIOUS OR DEATH TO YOU AND OR OTHERS 1 Ratings Per UL Range Limit UL 1971 1575 models are UL Listed at 15cd and meet 75cd on axis 2 Audible Speakers for RSSP Strobe Plate Appliances Bells MT MT4 ET70 E70 will produce 1 flash per second over the Regulated Voltage range These strobes meet the required light distribution patterns defined in UL 1971 All models are listed by UL for indoor use with a temperature range of 32 to 120 0 to 49 and maximum humidity of 93 2 RH The effect shipping and storage temperatures shall not adversely affect the performance of the appliance when it is stored in the original cartons and is not subjected to or abuse 3 Current Ratings AMPS for 24VDC Models RMS Current 3B Current Ratings AMPS for 12VDC Models RMS Current calculating the total currents use Table 3A and 3B to determine the highest value of RMS current for an individual strobe then multiply these values by the total of strobes Be sure to add the currents for any other appliances including audible signaling appliances powered by the same source and to include any required factors The maximum number of strobes on a single notification appliance circuit shall not exceed 50 These notification appliances are UL Listed as They are intended to be used with FACPs whose notification circuits are UL Listed as These appliances shall not be used on UL Listed Application notification circuits unless the appliances are identified to be compatible in the instructions of the FACP or unless the FACP is identified to be compatible in this instruction manual THESE APPLIANCES WERE TESTED TO THE REGULATED VOLTAGE LIMITS OF 16.0 33.0 VOLTS FOR 24V MODELS USING DC OR UNFILTERED FULL WAVE RECTIFIED VOLTAGE DO NOT APPLY VOLTAGE OUTSIDE OF THIS RANGE 2009 Cooper Wheelock Inc dba Cooper Notification All rights reserved P84233 M 1 of 4 CHECK THE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM OUTPUT OF THE POWER SUPPLY AND STANDBY BATTERY AND SUBTRACT THE DROP FROM THE CIRCUIT WIRING RESISTANCE TO DETERMINE THE APPPLIED VOLTAGE TO THE STROBES THE WIRE IMPEDANCE BETWEEN STROBES SHALL NOT EXCEED 35 OHMS Strobes are not designed to be used on coded systems in which the applied voltage is cycled on and off MAKE SURE THAT THE TOTAL RMS CURRENT REQUIRED BY ALL APPLIANCES THAT ARE CONNECTED TO THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY POWER SOURCES NOTIFICATION APPLICIANCE CIRCUITS SM DSM SYNC MODULES OR NOTIFICATION POWER SUPPLIES DOES NOT EXCEED THE POWER SOURCES RATED CAPACITY OR THE CURRENT RATINGS ANY FUSES ON THE CIRCUITS TO WHICH THESE APPLIANCES ARE WIRED OVERLOADING POWER SOURCES OR EXCEEDING FUSE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER AND FAILURE TO ALERT OCCUPANTS DURING AN EMERGENCY WHICH COULD RESULT PROPERTY DAMAGE AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO YOU AND OR OTHERS AND MOUNTING INFORMATION The following figures A F show the maximum number of field wires conductors that can enter the backbox used with each mounting option If limits are exceeded there may be insufficient space in the backbox to accommodate the field wires and stresses from the wires could damage the product Check that the installed product will have sufficient clearance and wiring room prior to installing backboxes and conduit especially if sheathed cable or 3 4 conduit fittings are used the limits shown for each mounting option comply with the National Electrical Code NEC Cooper Notification recommends use of the largest backbox shown and the use of approved stranded field wires whenever possible to provide additional wiring room for easy installation and minimum stress on the from wiring
