Branchport Ave Branch N J 07740 631 2148 US 397 5777 CANADA Thank you for using our products SERIES RSS MULTI CANDELA STROBE APPLIANCES INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS MOUNT VERSIONS this product according to this instruction manual Please keep this instruction manual for future reference RSS Multi Candela Strobes can provide a non synchronized strobe appliance when connected directly to a fire alarm control panel FACP or a synchronized strobe appliance when used in conjunction with a Sync Module SM Dual Sync Module DSM or Cooper Notification power utilizing Cooper Notification sync protocol The Series RSS Multi Candela Strobe Appliances are UL Listed under Standard 1971 Signaling for the Hearing Impaired for indoor Fire Protection Service and ULC Listed under Standard CAN ULC S526 07 for indoor Fire Protective The Multi Candela strobe provides four selectable light output intensities in one unit RSS with amber red blue or green lens is UL Listed Standard UL1638 Visual Signaling Appliance for Private Mode Emergency General Utility Signaling These strobes are listed for ceiling mount with the backboxes specified in these instructions See wiring and mounting information RSS models have an integrated strobe mounting plate that can be mounted to a single gang double gang 4 backbox 100mm European backbox or SHBB surface backbox The strobes use a xenon with solid state circuitry enclosed in a polycarbonate lens to provide maximum visibility and reliability for effective visible signaling All inputs polarized for compatibility with standard reverse polarity supervision of circuit wiring by the Fire Alarm Control Panel FACP All Canadian Installations should be in accordance with the Canadian Standard for the Installation of Fire Alarm Systems CAN ULC S524 and Electrical Code Part 1 Final acceptance is subject to Authorities Having Jurisdiction PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH ANY OF THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS AND WARNINGS COULD RESULT IN IMPROPER APPLICATION CANDELA SETTING INSTALLATION AND OR OPERATION OF PRODUCTS IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WHICH COULD RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO AND OR OTHERS 1 UL ULC Ratings at 10 Feet Range Per UL 1971 Range Per Strobes will produce 1 flash per second over the Regulated Voltage range Strobes with clear lens meet the required light distribution patterns defined in ULC S526 07 and UL 1971 Strobes with amber lens meet the light distribution patterns defined in UL 1971 All models are listed by UL ULC for indoor use with a temperature range of 32 to 120 0 to 49 and maximum humidity of 93 2 The effect of shipping and storage temperatures shall not adversely affect the performance of the appliance when it is stored in the original and is not subjected to misuse or abuse Candela ratings listed in table 1 are for Clear lens Reduce ratings to 70 for blue B 25 for amber A 55 for green G and 80 for red R CANDELA SETTING WILL DETERMINE THE CURRENT DRAW OF THE PRODUCT 2 Current Ratings RMS Current Draw calculating the total currents Use Table 2 to determine the highest value of Current for an individual strobe then multiply these values by total number of strobes Be sure to add the currents for any other appliances including audible signaling appliances powered by the same source include any required safety factors The maximum number or strobes on a single notification appliance circuit shall not exceed 50 These notification appliances are UL Listed as They are intended to be used with FACPs whose notification circuits are UL as These appliances shall not be used on UL Listed Application notification circuits unless the appliances are identified to compatible in the installation instructions of the FACP or unless the FACP is identified to be compatible in this instruction manual 2009 Cooper Wheelock Inc dba Cooper Notification All rights reserved J 1 of 5 THESE APPLIANCES WERE TESTED TO THE REGULATED VOLTAGE LIMITS OF 16.0 33.0 VOLTS FOR 24V MODELS USING DC OR UNFILTERED FULL WAVE RECTIFIED VOLTAGE DO NOT APPLY VOLTAGE OUTSIDE OF THIS RANGE Strobes are not designed to be used on coded systems in which the applied voltage is cycled on and off CHECK THE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM OUTPUT OF THE POWER SUPPLY AND STANDBY BATTERY AND SUBTRACT THE DROP FROM THE CIRCUIT WIRING RESISTANCE TO DETERMINE THE APPPLIED VOLTAGE TO THE STROBES THE MAXIMUM IMPEDANCE BETWEEN STROBES SHALL NOT EXCEED 35 OHMS MAKE SURE THAT THE TOTAL RMS CURRENT REQUIRED BY ALL APPLIANCES THAT ARE CONNECTED TO THE SYSTEM AND SECONDARY POWER SOURCES NOTIFICATION APPLICIANCE CIRCUITS SM DSM SYNC MODULES OR COOPER POWER SUPPLIES DOES NOT EXCEED THE POWER SOURCES RATED CAPACITY OR THE CURRENT RATINGS OF ANY ON THE CIRCUITS TO WHICH THESE APPLIANCES ARE WIRED OVERLOADING POWER SOURCES OR EXCEEDING FUSE RATINGS RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER AND FAILURE TO ALERT OCCUPANTS DURING AN EMERGENCY WHICH COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO YOU AND OR OTHERS AND MOUNTING INFORMATION The following figures show the maximum number of field wires conductors that can enter the backbox used with each mounting option these limits are exceeded there may be insufficient space in the backbox to accommodate the field wires and stresses from the wires could damage product Check that the installed product will have sufficient clearance and wiring room prior to installing backboxes and conduit especially if multiconductor cable or 3 4 conduit fittings are used the limits shown for each mounting option comply with the National Electrical Code NEC Cooper Notification recommends use of the largest option shown and the use of approved stranded field wires whenever possible to provide additional wiring room for easy installation and stress on the
